About the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute

• Founded in 1984, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is the official cancer research and treatment institution in Arkansas.
• The Cancer Institute provides access to cutting-edge treatments before they are available elsewhere in the state or even the country.
• The Cancer Institute leads or participates in more than 160 clinical trials.
• During the past 10 years, patient visits at the Cancer Institute have increased from approximately 40,000 annually to almost 115,000 annually.
• UAMS’ annual budget is approximately $920,805,657; approximately one-third of the revenue generated by UAMS is from Cancer Institute patient care.
• In 2005, cancer-related research brought approximately $18 million in new dollars into the state.
• The Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy is the world leader in the treatment of myeloma and has performed more than 6,500 stem cell transplants.
• The Cancer Institute outreach efforts offer multiple free cancer screenings throughout the year, including access to women’s health screenings throughout Arkansas through its modular mammography unit.
• More than 145 UAMS faculty members engage in cancer-related activities.
