Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee The National Cancer Institute (NCI) requires that all institutions with a designated cancer center have a Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC) to oversee clinical research. The PRMC was established at UAMS in 1994 and reviews all clinical studies conducted under the auspices of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (Cancer Institute). All cancer-related clinical protocols must be reviewed and receive full PRMC approval (in addition to IRB approval) before they can be activated and enroll patients. New protocols are approved based on scientific merit, scientific priority, patient availability, and available resources.
