Mass Spectrometry

The facility is equipped with a Thermo Finnigan MALDI LTQ instrument and a Micromass Q-TOF Micro instrument coupled to a nanoflow capillary LC-ESI system. MS or MS/MS analysis of gel-purified proteins or complex peptide mixtures can be performed to obtain mass fingerprint or sequence information.

Bio-Rad 2D Gel Electrophoresis System

This apparatus separates proteins based on isoelectric focusing in the first dimension using isoelectric pH gradient strips. The strips are then loaded onto an SDS-PAGE gel for separation in the second dimension.

Investigator ProPic Proteomics Workstation

The ProPic, from Genomic Solutions, has interchangeable visible and ultraviolet light sources to allow for visualization of gels stained with various types of dyes. Using the Investigator software, spots from 2D gels or bands from 1D gels can be selected for excision into a 96-well plate. In addition, the Investigator can be used to create 2D gel overlays, allowing for the comparison of protein expression levels between two gels.

Investigator ProGest Protein Digestion Station

The ProGest, from Genomic Solutions, is a programmable robot that can simultaneously perform in-gel enzymatic digestions on up to 96 samples
