| In the summer of 1992, one of our patients began distributing star shaped buttons that said “I believe in Miracles” among his fellow patients because he felt the stars represented the hope and commitment of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (Cancer Institute). In December of 1992 the Miracle Star Project was begun. Trees decorated with Miracle Stars were placed in the waiting rooms of the Cancer Institute Building. This led to the beginning of the Miracle Star Project in December 1992—a grand tradition that continues today! The Cancer Institute Volunteer Services and Auxiliary sponsors this project on an annual basis around the December holidays.
You may sponsor a star on a Miracle Star Tree as a special holiday greeting or to pay tribute to or memorialize a special person. Please supply us with a list of names and addresses for each $2.50 star you wish placed on the tree. An acknowledgement card with your name will be mailed to each person honored or to the family of the person remembered. Proceeds go to the Cancer Institute Patient Support Fund.
